As a leading exhibition and conference for the global gas, LNG, and energy industries, the 52nd Gastech was held in Houston, US from September 17th through September 20th. Under the theme of “Transforming Energy through Vision, Innovation and Action”, the 2024 event has attracted over 50,000 attendees from over 150 countries worldwide. Sinopec had a senior delegation attend a myriad of sessions focusing on the subjects of natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, climate technology, artificial intelligence, and low-carbon solutions.
At the opening ceremony, the representative from Sinopec spoke as a panelist on the topic of "The Strategic Advantage of Natural Gas as a Vital Enabler of the Energy Transitions". He underscored the important role of natural gas in supporting China's energy transformation and China’s carbon peaking and neutrality goals. He also shared the practice of Sinopec in promoting green and low-carbon transformation of the energy industry, in the aspects of green energy supply and decarbonization technology innovation and application.

Sinopec Donates One Million Yuan for the 3rd Year to Support Outstanding Students in Pursuit of Their Dreams!
On September 20, Sinopec and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University(PolyU)jointly launched “Cleaner Energy Better Life” Outstanding Student Award Scheme 2024. Sinopec donated 1 million yuan to PolyU to support high-calibre talents with international vision and innovative capabilities. In 2022 and 2023, Sinopec donated a total of 1.5 million yuan, benefiting 170 undergraduate, master's and doctoral students from five different faculties of PolyU. This year marks the third consecutive year that Sinopec has awarded scholarships to PolyU.

Recently, a delegation of Sinopec paid a visit to Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) in Serbia. Both sides signed an MoU. According to the MoU, Sinopec and NIS will be allied to develop carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), hydrogen, solar and wind power as well as geothermal opportunities.
The MoU is an important outcome of the two sides' efforts to advance cooperation in the fields of CCUS and new energy. In the future, Sinopec is poised to work with NIS on CCUS technologies and support Serbia's first CCUS project. The two sides will further deepen cooperation in more areas such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR), refinery upgrading, hydrogen production, storage and transportation.
Supporting education in Africa and promoting China-Africa friendship!
Recently, Sinopec donated 16 welding machines to St. Andrew’s Vocational Technical Institute in Uganda, as an effort to support local education. Nekoline Faith, director of the institute, expressed her gratitude. She said that these machines will enable students to gain more practical skills, so as to help them improve the quality of life.
Sinopec remains committed to its social responsibilities through continuous education promotion in Africa. In 2023, Sinopec won two certificates in Uganda, namely, Corporate Social Responsibility and Technical Training, awarded by the Petroleum Authority of Uganda(PAU) and the Ministry of Energy.
